1. It’s okay to wallow a little.

When you’re single for a while, you shouldn’t let your single status get the best of you all the time.  Resist the urge to crawl into bed and cry.  Why?  Because that’s not healthy.  Of course, it’s okay to wallow sometimes, but try to be a strong during this difficult time.  The truth is, sometimes, maybe once a week or once a month, it’s okay to shed a tear or two, especially when you’re feeling down and out from not being having your loved one by your side these days.

So go ahead and grab your favorite junk food and settle in for a movie marathon at home or grab a friend and have a fun night out on the town.

2. Think realistically.

It would be pretty awesome and magical if you met your next partner tomorrow, right?  Of course, that’s everyone’s dream!  But as professional matchmakers, we know that’s not going to happen, at least not tomorrow or in the next few days.  Everything in life takes time, especially when it comes to finding a compatible match and developing a good relationship.  You can date a lot of people, but most of them won’t be the one.  But then one day, boom!  There they are!

Finding love in LA doesn’t happen as fast as it does in the movies, and if you’re single and searching, you already know that.  You need to stay realistic and keep thinking along those lines.  Don’t approach each date thinking you’re going to meet your future wife or husband or even your future boyfriend or girlfriend.  Instead, think of it as meeting someone you’re just going to talk to for an hour or two.  That’s thinking realistically, and this kind of thinking will prevent you from getting disappointed and losing your hope.

3. Fill your days with activities.

When you’re busy at work and occupied in your spare time, your days will go so fast that you won’t even have time to think about your single status.  As long as you’re busy with positive things that bring you joy, like hanging out with friends, putting in extra hours at work, spending time with family, it’s always good to stay busy.

The problem arises when you’re miserable and depressed and want to lock yourself up at home alone.  But that’s no way to go about life.  Dust yourself off and venture out instead of locking yourself up at home feeling sorry for yourself.  Use your free time wisely and fill up your days with people and activities that bring you joy.

4. Roll with the flow.

The fact is, being single in LA does stink when you want to be coupled up.  Not everyone you meet is going to treat you the way you deserve to be treated.  Dates will stand you up, people are going to cancel on you, and people you exchange numbers with might never call you.  Worst of all, sometimes it all happens in a row.  You will undoubtedly get ghosted, dates won’t reply to your text messages, and you will get frustrated and worn out from all your efforts.  But you know what?  It’s okay.

As the leading Ventura matchmakers, we’re here to advise you to just roll with it.  Let this stuff happen without letting it get to your or believing that it’s your fault.  Just accept that people in the LA dating scene can be immature and that these things are going to happen.  If someone you meet is insecure or not ready to date, then that’s their problem, not yours.

5. Stay open-minded.

You don’t know when love is going to happen to you.  It can happen next year, six months from now, or even next month.  Heck, if you hire us, it could happen next week!  Sure, you can plan your dating life to a certain extent, but you already know love is unplanned.  You can have your whole work day planned out when your boss suddenly unloads an extra project on your lap, causing you to have to stay later at work.  You can have social plans for the evening when your best friend suddenly cancels.  See, you can’t plan life, but you can be open and ready for anything.

You have to stay open for anything that comes your way because love can come at you when you least expect it.  You have no idea when and where you’re going to meet your soul mate.  You have no idea how many dates you have to go out on until that happens, so you might as well stay positive and open for whatever happens.

6. Focus on building the best life possible.

It is totally possible to create a wonderful life, even if you happen to be single.  Dream big and start accomplishing your goals.  Work hard at a career that makes you want to get up every day, get closer with your close friends, travel, and do whatever you want to do to live a satisfying life.  Listen, you will not be single for long, so it’s time to start enjoying your single days to the fullest.

See, it’s totally possible to enjoy being single in LA.  Simply follow this advice from our Ventura matchmakers and enjoy your singledom to the fullest.
